Since 2004 SID has been a day for safe(r) responsible and positive use of internet. Safer Internet Day (SID) is organised by the joint Insafe-INHOPE network, with the support of the European Commission, with funding provided by the Connecting Europe Facility programme (CEF).
Every year based on changing theme there is a plea to contribute for making a better internet for everyone and mainly for children and young people. This year’s theme is ‘Together for a better internet’.
Internet is a wonderful medium. People can innocently have fun playing games, watching videos and chatting with friends without being aware of its dangers. Insult, deceive or threats of cyberbullying, scammers and perverts via e-mail or the internet are on the dark side of internet. Not to mention cyber criminals are looking for personal information: your password, name, e-mail, photos, videos. Children and young people are more prone to this.
That is why I participate in SID this year, helping raising awareness for children, young people and their parents about the danger on the internet. At the same the calling for SID applies of course for adults as well. Be aware of your online presence, how you use and interact on the net.
