The long awaited new album of D’Angelo came out a week before Christmas last year. I have been listening to Black Messiah since its release. The album Black Messiah, is credited as D’Angelo and the Vanguard, is surely funky and soulful although not so strong as his debut album, Brown Sugar back in 1995. My favorites so far are Really love, Charade and Betray my heart. I still need to let other songs sink in and digest them.
Really love has a long intro, skip it if you don’t like it. The song starts at 1:25. Love the guitar melody, the strings, his falsetto and the simple lyrics. It is worth the wait of 14 years.
