In addition to the Infographic How public is your private data which I shared yesterday I write this post. Did you know that when you set your geotag on on your smartphone, Instagram automatically shows this. Even if you don’t geotag your picture when you share it there? Yesterday I checked my Instagram account. When I share pictures of my neighbourhood where I live and pictures of my works, I do not geotag them. To my surprise those pictures were shown on the Instagram map. I do not want this so I removed all the automatic geotagging.
This is a simple tutorial of how to control geotagging your pictures on Instagram.
Posting this tutorial I just want to share the way to protect your personal data online. Removing your automatic geotagging on Instagram map from the locations you come frequently (school or work) is highly recommended. However I wil keep using geotagging for out and about activities or when I travel. Then geotagging comes handy.
