My favourita drama movie, the recent one is Intouchables. I wrote a thorough review about this French movie last year.
Feeling like I cheat a bit because I only insert a link to a complete review above, I decided to reveal more of my non-Hollywood favorite drama movies. Here are some of them:
Biutiful from Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu starring Javier Bardem. Bardem’s character is divorced with two children. He is terminally ill and sets things straight in his last days. Highly recommended.
De Tweeling (Twins) from Dutch director Ben Sombogaart starring Thekla Reuten. This movie is based on a book by Tessa de Loo. It was nominated for the best foreign film
for the Oscar in 2004. The twins Lotte and Anna are driven apart after the death of their parents. Anna stays and grows up in Germany while Lotte moves to The Netherlands. Anna marries an SS officer who passes away during the war. Lotte’s fiancé is murdered in Auschwitz. The twins miss each other so badly but fate brings them together 50 years after their last meeting. Touching story.
Das leben der anderen, The lives of others by German director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck starring Sebastian Koch. This movie won an Oscar for best foreign movie in 2006. The story is about a Stasi officer (East German secret police) who is assigned to spy on playwright Georg Dreyman in 1984. Dreyman lives with his girlfriend, an actress. This Stasi agent spies on this couple from an attic. He starts a file, writing down all the couple’s activities. There are so many intrigues. Later on the agent finds out the real purpose of his surveillance assignment. This is one of my favorite drama movies because it depicts the life under former East Germany so real, I could almost feel it. The story ends shortly after the fall of Berlin Wall, Germany, West and East are reunited. A must see to those who are interested in modern, recent history.
I love movies therefore it is impossible to have only one favorite movie of each genre but that was it folks, for now. I see you tomorrow with another movie challenge.
