MM: We’ll meet again

Following the festivities around the 70th celebration of Operation Market Gardenlast week the choice for MM is Vera Lynn’s We’ll meet again. This hit has been played over and over.

This single is associated with mobilisation in World War II. Soldiers departing for war in Great Britain and USA heard this song. Their family did not know when or if the soldiers would come back.

Imagine how it must have been like for the soldiers, parents, wives, girlfriends and siblings to hear this song. Waving good bye with Vera Lynn’s sweet voice at the background not knowing if and when they would see each other again. Perhaps on one sunny day.

We’ll meet again
Don’t know where
Don’t know when
But I know
We’ll meet again
Some sunny day

Keep smilin’ thru
Just like you
Always do
‘Til the blue skies drive
The dark clouds
Far away

And will you please say hello
to the folks that I know
Tell’em that I won’t be long
And they’ll be happy to know
That when you saw me go
I was singing this song

We’ll meet again
Don’t know where
Don’t know when
But I know
We’ll meet again
Some sunny day
