Finding Nemo in Raja Ampat

My dear friend Indah has just published her excellent underwater photographs with Clownfishes taken in Raja Ampat, Papua, Indonesia. Raja Ampat is a hot dive spot nowadays. And clownfishes don’t need any introduction as they are worldly well-known as Nemo from Finding Nemo. I just love all the pics! Enjoy…

indahs: dive, travel & photography

There is no doubt that the movie Finding Nemo has increased the popularity of clownfish. Nemo and his father, Marlin, are just one species from tens clownfish/anemonefish species recognized by far. What I love about the diving in Raja Ampat (West Papua, Indonesia) was: I saw (regularly) at least four species of clownfish in (almost) every dive site I visited. I was diving in 25 different dive sites,  and most of the dive sites have numerous clownfish and variety of their hosts, the sea anemone.

The clownfish always lives within the tentacles of sea anemone. The sea anemone produces a toxin that protects the clownfish from their predators. A recent study in 2013 has reported that the clownfish’ wiggle dance actually helping their sea anemone host to breath and help the anemone to aerate themselves, which means the clownfish and anemone needs each other to survive living in the ocean.

Aku main keblogmu ah, mau lihat.

      • Aku belum nuliiis. Hahahaha
Pemalas. Belum nyimpen jg foto2 underwaternya. Banyak yg gagal moto soalnya yaa gitu deh. Daerah lampung yg clownfish itu “Pahawang”.

  3. Indonesia memang banyak memiliki keindahahan alam yang luar biasa. Keindahan laut yang mempesona. Raja Ampat salah satunya. Dan ada lagi keindahan laut yang juga tak kalah cantik yaitu di Pulau Ora Maluku.
