Long time no art post from me. So hereby I present you Roy Lichtenstein (October 27, 1923 – September 29, 1997). Lichtenstein was an American pop artist. With Andy Warhol, Lichtenstein was a leading figure in pop art movement in the 1950es and 1960es. His works are paintings, lithography, sculptures.
His paintings were inspired by comic strips. The primary colors (red, blue and yellow) and strong black lines mark his characteristic style. In some paintings Lichtenstein used dots which was quite contemporary at that time.
While Warhol is so famous of his Marilyn portrait & Campbell’s soup can, Lichtenstein is well-known for his comic strips inspired paintings.
The girls in Lichtenstein’s paintings look so melodramatic. People associates melodrama mostly with gloomy, dark colours. Yet the combination of it with vivid colours works well. I can feel ‘it’.
For you who have seen one of the following paintings but didn’t know who the painter was, voilà the Lichtenstein’s girls.
What do you think of Lichtenstein’s girls?
