Look at the image below. A positive person will think the glass is half full. On the contrary a negative person is convinced that the glass is half empty. What they are not familiar with is another approach seeing this glass, the glass is full anyway.
It is quite refreshing right? Beside the well-known two ways to see things, there is a third point of view which is often unseen. This is called thinking out of the box. 1 + 1 = 3.
During my study many lecturers emphasized this. I found it quite repetitive without really being able to get the core message of it. Later on when I started my working career, I have begun to eventually apply this to solve problems and to write strategies. It works for me.
Then I realized this approach could also be handy for non work related matters. This is thus what I have been doing: remarking that the glass is half full cause I am a positivo and the glass is full cause I think outside the box.
