One of my inspirations, Simone de Beauvoir, French philosopher, feminist & existentialist, was born today 106 years ago.
Google honored her by this setting this Google Doodle today.
I read some of her books when I was a student. These are De Beauvoir’s quotes I find inspiring:
One is not born a woman, but becomes one.
Man is defined as a human being and woman as a female – whenever she behaves as a human being she is said to imitate the male.
What is an adult? A child blown up by age.
Change your life today. Don’t gamble on the future, act now, without delay.
From the hour you were born you began to die, but between birth and death, there is life.
I don’t know what Simone would think of women and women’s rights today if she was still around. She would keep her hope when she hears about Malala and the likes. Or she would be terrified to see how women use their sexuality to get what they want. Even worse, some are dressed in sexy clothes, screaming about women’s empowerment.
Anyhow, Joyeux anniversaire, happy birthday Simone!
