Mooi maakt gelukkig

Translation of this title above: beauty brings happiness. Yes, another standard in human quest for happiness. But is it?  if this is true, how about less beautiful people? I can’t have a hart to call people ‘ugly’.  This statement ‘beauty brings happiness’ can be interpreted as less beautiful people won’t easily get happiness. Imagine how boring the world would be, only full of beautiful happy people.

How about the definition of beauty in a first place? Who defines who is beautiful? And does beauty indeed make beautiful people happy?

Nowadays, with beauty standards for sale (silicon implants for specific body parts) you can have yourself sculpted according to your own definition of beauty. You would then supposedly be/feel beautiful which makes me wonder whether people who did this have reached the happiness they wanted afterwards ?

At the end, happiness is a state of mind.

  1. True, happiness is a state of mind. But, looking good does help making me happier. Still, I am quite happy right now even though I don’t relatively look good. Aaargh, jadi bingung sendiri mau ngomong apa.

Maksudnya, gw saat ini relatif nggak cantik, tapi tetep aja bisa happy. Cuma, kalo gw bisa tau2 lebih OK secara fisik tanpa banyak usaha (simsalabim), mungkin gw bisa lebih happy lagi.

Walah! Time for lunch! Otak nggak bisa diajak mikir! LOL

Yang penting nerima diri kita sendiri apa adanya. Di post ini gw hanya bertanya2 kenapa ada ide bahwa yang cantik itu pasti bahagia. Semua orang cantik atau ngga, pasti punya masalah masing masing.

  2. Beauty is rather dependent on fashion. Nowadays slender bodies may be relatively much in demand, but in the seventeenth century for instance voluptuous ladies were considered to be the peak of beauty . At least if we can go by a painter like Rubens.

As fashion has the habit of changing over time, there always is hope for me and my fellow ugly creatures. In the meantime let´s get happy by enjoying ourselves.

I just worry about the trend of shaped beauty by plastic surgery. Would people who underwent a plastic surgery got happier as they wanted?
